Cat cafes are not new but they certainly are new to Tonbridge. I know that there were some guffaws when the cat cafe rumour was first announced on here but it really is happening and it’s opening soon…

The year of the …
It feels like it’s the year of the vegan, doesn’t it? Veganism is everywhere! Or maybe it’s the decade of super food avocado?! Are we all becoming wiser about our food choices and their wider impact on us and the environment? After attending one of Debbie Stranack’s talks, I now ‘get it’ and I’m all for it … but don’t worry I still eat the likes of meat and eggs and indulge in the not so healthy stuff too.
You’ve heard of the Great British Bake-Off, make way for the …
Great Tonbridge Cake-Off! Yes, this weekend is the bank holiday weekend and it’s the Tonbridge Food and Drink Festival. If you haven’t been before it’s FREE, it’s on the Castle Lawn and there are lots of food and drink stalls selling lots of lovely produce. Here is a video from last year and you can check out more on my new You Tube channel This was when I first arrived – look at the weather, looks like it’ll be a scorcher this year too! Anyway, the reference to GBBO is that there is a Cake-Off this year again on both Saturday and Sunday and yours truly will be a judge on Sunday – I’m very excited! To enter, all you need to do is: Bake a cake yourself and decorate it Deliver it to the main stage by 1pm on day of entry Simples! There are three age ranges – 5-11yrs; 12-15 yrs; 16 and over and we’d like just one cake per family please! Judging takes place at 2.30pm on both days. So as Mel and Sue, and Neil and Sandi say, “Bake!” and I’ll look forward to eating some of them on Sunday! p.s. I do have the answers to those GBBO questions you all asked – just waiting for Tonbridge to calm down on new places opening and then I’ll publish!
Some news, some just downright hearsay!
I am always working hard to bring you the breaking gastronomic news of Tonbridge and the local area. And let’s focus on the word news – I usually like to check my facts and tell you the definitive ‘word on the street’ about new places popping up but in this post, I have to admit that some of it is rumour. Quite well-founded rumour but as yet I haven’t been able to obtain the facts that I so need! So here goes, in no particular order …..
Beercause it’s ale for a great cause! (I know, terrible.)
Warning! This blog is not for the cynical – it’s very positive! Community spirit, creative people, generous businesses. But it does all start with a sad story.
Tonbridge Foodie News!
Thanks for all your help over the weekend with my Mediterranean veg soup question – look out for the next review so see what that’s all about! I have been very quiet I know but I am still trying to bring you news of the foodie goings on in Tonbridge – some of the news I’m not allowed to disclose yet (so hard!!) and others, I’m just waiting to hear final details.
