It’s bonkers to think that five weeks ago, life was completely different. The coronavirus was approaching but we weren’t in lockdown and we could still go out for lunch! I was kindly invited to eat at Ferah, the Turkish restaurant on the site that was Shamo’s and then Portuguese restaurant, Garfo Douro and then another Turkish restaurant, Cappadocia! It’s on Avebury Avenue near Tonbridge library and importantly, it’s still doing delivery and takeaway during lockdown.
date night
Verdigris, High Street, Tonbridge, 9 Feb 2019
I was delighted when Mr Eat and I stepped out of our front door on 9th Feb, a date night, to walk to the High Street, safe in the knowledge that we had several places to choose from for a pre-dinner drink. How cool is that: “several places to choose from”? The Old Fire Station was open, we had The Beer Seller, Fuggles, we could’ve popped into El Mariachi for a quick cocktail …
El Mariachi, Avebury Avenue, Tonbridge, 2 November 2018
We were greeted with a lovely welcome at El Mariachi, Tonbridge’s very own Mexican restaurant, when I visited with a friend a couple of Fridays ago. This restaurant was in the first wave of those dipping their toe in the Tonbridge dining scene and they’ve stood the test of time; this is no mean feat considering their location too, tucked away down Avebury Avenue.
A classy New Year’s Eve within walking distance – tick!
I love new year’s eve! I know I’m odd because most people really don’t like it but I think it’s a very special night, very poignant. As a result, I love to go out on NYE and celebrate with friends and family and this year, there’s a really special party happening right on the High Street on 31 December.
Garfo Douro, Tonbridge, 7 September 2018
I have been so excited about writing this review and sharing with you my really lovely evening at Garfo Douro. My friend and I were very kindly invited by chef Jose and the Garfo Douro marketing manager Zoe to come and see and, of course, taste what all the fuss is about. If you haven’t heard, it’s very popular.
The Rose Revived, Hadlow, 16 March 2018
This Friday is Good Friday and on this day, typically, we eat fish and so it seemed appropriate to tell you about my recent fishy experience.
I was kindly invited to The Rose Revived in Hadlow for their new weekly night of Fishy Friday. Snow had interfered with plans but finally my friend (who LOVES fish) and I (I love fish too!) made it to this country pub which has quite literally been revived, relaunching February 2017.
Not your average school dinner! The Artisan, Tonbridge, 8 March 2018
Yesterday was International School Meals Day – who knew?! That’s what you get when you buy a social media planner for your business. But it is so apt for today’s blog which is all about The Artisan at West Kent College in Tonbridge. My friends and I were excited to try this place, squirreled away at the top of the main college building and we were not disappointed.
The Dovecote, Capel, 2 September 2017
The Dovecote is hidden away on the road between Tudeley and Capel, almost blending into a row of cottages. Mr EAT and I had a date night and as I was willing to drive, we decided to try somewhere further afield, new to us and somewhere that I hadn’t heard any of you discuss. This very welcoming and homely pub was a pleasant surprise.
Pizza!! 124 The Bakehouse – Pizza night, Tonbridge, 9th February 2017
124 High Street is a beautiful old building and since it has become our very own artisan bakery, it’s been given a new lease of life. The owner, Clare, is capitalising on her skills and building by offering bread making lessons, and also, pizza nights. Quite appropriately, the Bakehouse looked rather different to its daytime …
Very special – The Twenty Six, Southborough, 14 May 2016
The Twenty Six in Southborough I know that this isn’t about somewhere on Tonbridge High Street, not even in Tonbridge! But I wanted to review The Twenty Six as it’s just so good and well worth a visit. And it is just up the road, really… There is something very special about The Twenty Six. …
